TIL bout Nobukazu Kuriki, a Japanese mountaineer who repeatedly attempted to climb Everest alone and supposedly without using oxygen bottles. He made eight failed attempts, losing nine of his fingers in the process, before dying of illness on his way back from his eighth attempt.
