TIL when TWA Flight 1 crashed into a mountain in 1936, surviving flight attendant Nellie Granger followed telephone wires for 4 miles to get help and call the TWA office and notify them of the crash. Nobody realized that the plane had crashed before the call. She then walked back with help.
