TIL In 1745 The Earl of Kilmarnock a Jacobite rebel was beheaded on Tower Hill. John Thrift the executioner was visibly upset and burst into tears when the Earl of arrived. This gave rise to the bizarre scene of the man who was about to die comforting his executioner.
