TIL that the term "use case" originated in software engineering and was popularized by Ivar Jacobson, a Swedish computer scientist, in the 1980s. The first known published use of the term "use case" was in Jacobson's 1992 book "Object-Oriented Software Engineering: A Use Case Driven Approach.”
