TIL that our DNA is full of genes that no longer work. Called pseudogenes, many have "good" versions in other species. For example GULO allows most animals to make their own vitamin C. Our version is GULOP, and is broken. Freakily, there are about as many pseudogenes as working genes in human DNA.

TIL that a case decided in California in 1974 cited the Magna Carta (1215) in it's opinion. The Supreme Court of California used the document to interpreted a requirement in common law that a defendant faced with incarceration be entitled to a trial overseen by a legally trained judge.
