TIL Johnny Carson was asked by Mel Brooks to play the gunslinger character in the movie Blazing Saddles which eventually went to Gene Wilder. Of that screenplay, Carson, while on a Mexican vacation, told Brooks "I read it in L.A. and it wasn’t funny, and it’s even less funny in Mexico."
