TIL about Ali Maow Maalin. In 1977 he was diagnosed and later found to be the last known person to be naturally infected with smallpox. He made a full recovery and in the 2000's worked with the WHO on their successful polio eradication campaign in Somalia. He died of malaria in 2013.
