TIL that NO books, music, films or other copyrighted materials have entered the public domain in the US for 20+ years. That changes January 1st, 2019 -- all works 1st published in the US in 1923 will enter the public domain. It's been 21 years since the last mass expiration of copyright in the U.S.

TIL we are now experiencing one of the largest coral bleaching event on record, due to the current, intense, El Niño conditions. Bleaching occurs when the corals expel the algae that live in their tissues because of extreme sea temperatures, causing large swaths of reef to die.
