TIL that when Dikembe Mutombo originally left the DR Congo to attend Georgetown, he did so on a USAID scholarship in order to become a doctor. But his 7'2 frame got him noticed by Hall of Fame basketball coach coach John Thompson. Mutombo went on to become a Hall of Famer himself.
