TIL of Patrice Lumumba- arguably the Godfather of Africa's reclaiming of independence. He led Congo to independence in 1960 (from a colony of Belgium). He was a charismatic leader who embodied the struggle for African unity, and the complete eradication of European colonialist power in Africa.
