TIL The founder of France's criminal investigative agency, Eugène François Vidocq, was an escaped convict. Vidocq's superiors would repeatedly receive messages from jails demanding Vidocq's arrest, they were ignored and ultimately Vidocq received a pardon from King Louis XVIII.
