TIL Jessie Roberta Cowan (aka Rita), from Kirkintilloch, Scotland, is known as the Mother of Japanese Whisky. She married Masataka Taketsuru, who had come to Scotland to study Chemistry and the art of whisky-making, and she followed him back to Japan, where she provided moral and financial support.
