TIL of Francis Salvador – elected to South Carolina’s Provincial Congress in 1774, he’s considered the first member of the Jewish faith to hold elective office in America. Killed in a joint Loyalist/Cherokee ambush in 1776, he became the first Jewish soldier to die for the Patriot cause.
