TIL that the eruption of the Hunga Tonga–Hunga Haʻapai volcano was heard from 6000 miles away. For reference, that is the equivalent of hearing a sound from Moscow while being all the way in San Francisco. Before 2022, this record was held by the eruption of Krakatoa whose range was 3000 miles.
