TIL that GenCon was started by Gary Gygax (father of D&D) to attract wargamers and humorously called it the “Geneva Convention” because it took place in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. When several teen/college attendees showed up without having booked a hotel, Gary invited them to sleep at his house.
