TIL that Houdini, the escape artist, worked as a spy for Scotland Yard. In the early 1900s, he infiltrated and spied on the German police, sending reports back to a British spymaster named William Melville. In exchange, Melville made sure that Houdini's career as an entertainer took off in London.
