TIL: The executioner who hanged the Nazis at Nuremberg lied about his experience, claiming to have performed hangings in Texas and Oklahoma after both had switched to electrocution. The hangings he performed were badly botched. 4 years later, he was electrocuted changing a light bulb.

TIL that Fritz Moen, who was partly paralysed was wrongfully convicted of two rapes and murders. One victim had been chased across a field, knocked down and tied up with her own clothes, which he was physically incapable of doing. He served a total of 18 years in prison, he was acquitted in 2004.

TIL In 1974 at a Canadian army training base in Quebec, cadets were being trained to handle discarded explosives. A cadet asked one of the instructors if he could pull the pin on the grenade, and the instructor told him it was safe. It exploded, killing 6 cadets and injuring 65 others.
