TIL: Dr. Mary Walker was an American surgeon and feminist. She served as a Union Army nurse in the in the Civil War, before being commissioned as the first woman assistant surgeon. She was awarded the Medal of Honor for her service, and Walker remains the only woman ever to receive this award.
