TIL 'ea' in Hawaiian means 'life, air, breath, sovereignty, rural, independence'. In 1843, when the Hawaiian Kingdom regained sovereignty from Britain, King Kamehameha III proclaimed, ‘Ua mau ke ea o ka ʻāina i ka pono,’ which translates to ‘the life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness.’
