TIL Max Schmeling, world heavyweight champion associated with Nazi Germany, risked his life to save two Jewish children in 1938. Later in life, he financially assisted his one-time bitter rival Joe Louis. The Rocky/Ivan Drago match was based on Schmeling and Louis' fight, but updated for Cold War.
