TIL that the Gummy Bear originated in Germany, where it was created by Hans Riegel, who started the Haribo Company in 1920. In 1922, Riegel invented the Dancing Bear gummy, inspired by bears seen at street markets in Europe. The Gold Bear product, the current gummy standard, was created in 1967.
