TIL Gene Roddenberry was reluctant to include a Klingon in TNG. Worf wasn't even mentioned in the writer's guide. When Worf was finally added to the crew, he was intended to have a minor role. Gradually, Worf became more important to the story and soon became one of the main characters on the show.
