TIL that using yellow and red cards in football to signal a penalty for a player is a fairly recent invention considering the sports age. The first time this system was implemented was at the FIFA World Cup in 1970 in Mexico. In Germany, 2 yellow = 1 red card, was also only implemented only in 1991!
