TIL that the Berlin Wall was torn down by mistake. East Germany’s new spokesman, Günter Schabowski, accidentally implied the wall would be taken down, which caused citizens to rush the wall. The East German government decided it would be worse to try to stop them, and allowed the wall to come down.
