TIL the then captain of the New York Yankees died in a plane crash in 1979. Thurmon Munson was named Captain in 1976, the team's first since Lou Gerhig (1939), won ROTY, gold glove 3x in a row, & led Yankees to 3 World Series from 1976 to 1978, winning in '77 & '78. He was 32 years old.
