TIL that scientists in 1997 witnessed a massive battle b/w 9 sperm whales & up to 35 orcas off the coast of Cal. that "clearly establish for the first time that killer whales are predators of sperm whales." The "apparent helplessness of the sperm whales" was striking w/ maybe all 9 eventually dying.
