TIL in 1885 when Nikola Tesla was working for Thomas Edison, he claimed he could redesign Edison’s inefficient motor and generators. Edison said there’d be $50K US for Tesla if he got it done. After a few months he did and Edison said “Tesla you do not understand our American humor” Tesla resigned.
