TIL in 1987 Al Sharpton accused a police officer and prosecutor of abducting and raping a 15yo named Tawana Brawley. The girl was lying so she wouldn’t get in trouble for staying out late, both her and Sharpton were later found guilty of slander. Sharpton has never apologized for the incident.

TIL that Monty Python sued ABC over their censorship of season 4 of their show. ABC had cut punchlines and entire characters. The judge and jury watched two versions of a season 4 episode; a BBC one they laughed at, and an edited ABC one which no one laughed at. The judge ruled in ABC’s favour.

TIL that future King Henry V was struck in the face by an arrow in his first battle leading soldiers. Rather than leave the field, he reportedly stated that “he would rather die than stain his soldierly reputation by flight.” He was sixteen at the time.
