TIL that Hugh Glass was left for dead after being mauled by a grizzly bear. After regaining consciousness, he set his broken leg, allowed maggots to eat his dead flesh to prevent gangrene, and made his way back to civilization over the course of 6 weeks, surviving on mostly roots and berries .
