TIL that the first black air force pilot in history was an African-Turkish named Ahmet Ali. He served in World War I and Turkish War of Independence, retired from Turkish Air Force as a colonel in 1949 and died in 1969. His grandchildren are still living in Turkey and also active in aviation.
