TIL one of the earliest confirmed European residents/migrants to China were the Vilionis, a Genoese merchant family who lived there in the mid-1300s. Their existence was discovered in 1951 when one Katarina Vilioni's (a daughter) tombstone was unearthed in Yangzhou, the city where they once resided.
