TIL about Joe Simpson, who broke his leg descending a mountain and was lowered off the mountain by his climbing partner Simon Yates. He ends up falling off a cliff and into a crevasse after Simon is forced to cut the rope. He survives and crawls 8 miles to safety. Better story in link.
