TIL there is a Japanese expression, ‘manaita no ueno koi’, meaning 'a carp laid on a chopping block’. It is used to describe a person who keeps their cool in the face of an imminent and definite danger, and derives from the carp’s uniquely calm disposition when it is about to be cut up.
