TIL that in 1615 a party of Spanish whalers were left stranded in Iceland. The Spaniards stole a locals fish and in retaliation a group of Icelanders massacred the robbers. Due to this the sheriff declared all Spaniards were criminals. Only in 2015 after a memorial of the dead,the decree was revoked
