TIL this species of desert tadpole shrimp, Triops newberryi, is found in the western US. It only hatches during periods of seasonal flooding and can live to 90 days. This shrimp's eggs are known to stay viable for at least 50 years. It is being considered as a biocontrol agent for larval mosquitoes.
