TIL Gerhard Domagk’s discovery of the antibacterial properties of Prontosil won him the 1939 Nobel Prize in Medicine but German citizens were forbidden to accept the prize under Hitler. Domagk was forced to reject it by the Gespato before receiving it in 1947 but without the prize money
