TIL WW2 Black Sheep Squadron member Bill Case cheated death by randomly lowering the seat in his cockpit. In battle, a bullet from a Japanese Zero hit his cockpit and bloodied his scalp. If he had been sitting an inch higher, he would be dead. He went on to live another 52 years.

TIL bacteria from chronic gum disease has been found in brains suffering from Alzheimer's. Bad oral hygiene has been a known risk factor for dementia but researchers now suspect that bacteria from gum disease may somehow cross into the brain and cause or worsen Alzheimer's symptoms.

TIL George the Lobster is the oldest recorded lobster ever, estimated to be 140 years old (born ~1869) at the time of his capture in 2008 off the coast of Newfoundland. He was released back into the wild in 2009 and it is unknown if he remains alive today.
