TIL On April 30th 2003, the world rocket sled speed record was broken at Holloman High Speed Test Track, New Mexico. The sled reached Mach 9, 9465 feet per second (6453 mph) producing 228,000lbs thrust over 1.4 seconds. The track speed limit is currently set at Mach 10.
