TIL when Hokule'a, a double-hulled canoe, launched from Maui for Tahiti in 1975, it was the first time in approximately 800 years that a team of sailors used Polynesian wayfinding to navigate this route. A crowd of over 10,000 people gathered on the shores of Tahiti to welcome the team home.
