TIL that there are around 50-60 blue faience hippopotamus statuettes that survived from Ancient Egypt. Due to the danger hippos posed in the wild, they often snapped off the legs of hippopotamus statuettes before placing them in tombs, so the hippos wouldn’t be able to eat the soul of the deceased.

TIL that the United States of America placed 120,000 Japanese-Americans in internment camps. Their property was confiscated before they entered the camps. It was never returned. Tax records were destroyed which meant camp attendees could not claim compensation for property loss.

TIL In 1984 scientists were stumped by a chunk of earth seemingly plucked out of the ground as though someone used a 'giant cookie cutter' and put down, right side up, 73 feet away. The chunk was mostly soil held together by roots and had the exact shape and thickness as the hole.
