TIL that the AMBER Alert system (named after the murdered child Amber Hagerman) officially stands for “America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response”. When Canada adopted AMBER Alerts, Quebec named its system “Alerte Médiatique But Enfant Recherché” (“Media Alert for Child Recovery” in French).
