TIL at Vancouver Island a male orca and its mother ambushed another mother orca and her calf, for the purpose of infanticide and to mate with it's mother once nursing was no longer needed. The male got ahold of the calf and drowned it, while his mother blocked the calfs mother from rescuing the calf
