TIL about Lesch-Nyhan Syndrome, an inborn error of metabolism who's clinical hallmark is self-mutilation. The behavior begins after teething, as infants bite off their lower lip/perioral tissue. Later in life, affected patients are known to stab themselves and amputate fingers, toes, and tongue.
