TIL that "sinister" means "left" or "left-handed" in Latin from the word "sinus" meaning "pocket". In Roman togas, the pocket would be on the left side. This grew to left-handed people having unlucky or even evil connotations, which led to the modern English word "sinister".

TIL when Arthur Ashe faced Jimmy Connors in ‘75 Wimbledon, he was also being sued for $3M by Connors bc Ashe called Connors “unpatriotic “ for ducking Davis Cup. Ashe came to the match wearing a Davis Cup sweatshirt that was emblazoned “USA”. Ashe won the match & Connors dropped the lawsuit.
