TIL about Monte Testaccio, the 'Mountain of Pots' in Rome, a hill made entirely from around 53 million discarded ancient Roman containers used to carry olive oil. It is one of the largest ancient 'spoil mounds' in the world, and is now key in understanding Roman trade routes in Spain and Libya.
