TIL the pilots attempts to save Alaska Airlines Flight 261 on 31 January 2000 served as an inspiration for the fictionalized crash landing in the 2012 movie Flight. Flight 261 experienced a catastrophic loss of pitch control and crashed into the Pacific ocean, killing all 88 on board.
