TIL Walter Cronkite initially came to fame as a war reporter during WW2. Cronkite was the first American to do an uncensored report on Operation Torch, flew in bombing raids, fired a machine gun at a German fighter, covered the Nuremberg Trials, and was a reporter in Moscow from 1946-48.
