TIL the first German woman to receive a Ph.D. in chemistry married Fritz Haber, and killed herself due to his work on chemical weapons during WWI. The day after her death, Haber led the first gas attack on the Russians.

The company underwriting the policy then tried to weasel out of paying by claiming they meant a lunar year (12 months of 28 days each). They lost and had to pay out.
