TIL Sogen Kato was thought to be the oldest man in Tokyo up until it was discovered he had died at the age of 79 in 1978. His family kept his death secret for his pension. This lead to a huge search for all persons over 100 years. Japan couldn't locate 234,354 supposed centenarians.
