Today I learned "Good Times" is a spin-off of a spin-off. Good Times is a spin-off of Maude, itself a spin-off of All in the Family.

TIL in 1998, a Georgia high school student was suspended from school after wearing a Pepsi t-shirt on Coke Day. Upon hearing the news, a Pepsi spokesperson said, “Without knowing all the details, it sounds like (he’s) obviously a trendsetter with impeccable taste in clothes.”

TIL in WW2 the U.S military initially recommended adding armor to areas of aircraft with the most bullet holes. However due to survivorship bias - where people or things that do not make it past a selection process are not factored into a decision - those were places that already had enough armor.

TIL: In 1943 a flying jeep prototype was designed with a 40 foot rotor on the roof along with a tail fairing and fins, but no rudder. In Sept 1944 it was successfully flown for 10 minutes at an alt. of 400 feet, after being pulled up and released by a Armstrong Whitworth Whitley bomber.

TIL that an Australian bird, called the rainbow lorikeet, routinely gets drunk from spring to summer. The small birds drink the fermented crimson flower nectar from the Weeping Boer-bean tree. When intoxicated these birds make loud drunken noises which many people find bothersome.
